Test Procedure
The Dolby certification process requires from the applicant, among others, to perform in-house tests and send the results on review. These tests are exactly the same as those that Dolby Laboratories will perform in their laboratories and are well defined in the Dolby Digital Decoder Implementation Test Procedure document.
The tests are divided in groups of functional tests, performance tests and listening tests and require an exactly configured DUT (Device Under Test), the appropriate test streams delivered to the DUT and a synchronized capturing using the Audio Precision hardware. These steps are repeated for all the tests and take more time then the capturing itself.
Reasons
The monotonic style and the time consuming of the steps led to the idea of audio test automation.
The APWin software, which controls the AP hardware, supports VisualBasic scripts. This makes it possible to use computation, decision making and hardware control instructions, to gather information and results.
