During the past few years, continuous technological development forced Digital Television Systems (DTVS) to become more and more complex. Modern DTVS currently comprise a lot of interfaces which in combination with new functionality produce a huge number of possible testing combinations.
Recent DTVS combine wide spectrum of different features, starting with different inputs (HDMI, VGA, YPbPr, LVDS, SCART, Analog/Digital RF etc.), different type of connections (LAN, USB etc.) and up to combining different devices in one entry. Testing such complex systems becomes a big challenge.
During product development process almost 40% of total development time need to be dedicated for verification and testing processes. Because of strong competition and short time to market period there is raising trend to move from manual to automatic product verification and testing process.
Not only test execution process is important during product verification and testing process but all segments, starting from precisely defined requirements, properly designed and created test cases and testing plans, automatic test execution, correctly presented product failures and incorrectness and on time reported errors, are highly important part of product validation and verification process.
Until now there is no standardization or single application/system able to support all verification and testing processes during DTVS production. Currently available solutions mainly take care only about software part of the system and test management process.
